I don’t use juju —Obesere


It emerged during the week that the Fuji musician, Abass Akande Obesere, had got threat calls and messages from some popular fuji musicians that he has been using ‘juju’ all the while. The messages said the controversial musician could hardly perform in a day within the last couple of months in Nigeria and abroad without the use of juju.
A  source close to the musician told Saturday Tribune that Obesere even got a message that he had gone further to sweet-talk many of their patrons. This, according to his traducers, affected the rate at which they are called for shows recently.

Two Nigerian female singers welcome baby boys


The god of fertility has smiled on the music industry as two of its daughters were delivered of baby boys during the week.
The Tosin Yusuf and Tunji ‘Tee Billz families have been receiving congratulatory messages for successful deliveries of their wives, Omawumi and Tiwa Savage.
The two mothers, who were seen together recently during the baby shower of Omawumi in their baby bumps are currently delirious with joy having given birth to male children within a week.

Fans Hail Dbanj’s MAMA Evolution Award dedication to Don Jazzy

  
Nigeria’s multiple awarding talent, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as Dbanj, has been lauded for dedicating the 2015 MAMA’s Evolution Award to his erstwhile partner and producer, Michael Collins, alias Don Jazzy.
Fans of the Oliver Twist singer have ascribed his action as thoughtful and a strong evidence of his maturity of character. Dbanj, who was declared winner of the prestigious Evolution Awards held in South Africa last weekend, took a trip down memory lane, remembering the words of his former partner in his dedication.

Stella Damasus releases video for Ja Gi Ma


Nigerian actress and singer, Stella Damasus has released the visuals of her new song titled, ‘Ja Gi Mma’, a song which was adapted from its original Igbo praise song.
Ja Gi Ma video is directed by Da Bishop and has a huge white presence in the video’s orchestra enhancing the actress’s resonant voice and her lines effortlessly delivered. Ja Gi Ma will be making the list of songs Stella Damasus is preparing for her new album.

After reading the article with the above title in the ‘Friday treat’ edition of 17th April, 2015 in the Nigerian Tribune, I felt the need to contribute as a silent but keen observer of the Ibadan music scene to the interesting and ongoing discussion among the stakeholders. I believe it is important firstly to understand the concept of “music industry capital(s)”, and the dynamics that shapes and controls the localisation and establishment of these centres. The emergence of music industry capitals is closely tied to the evolution of city-centres and urbanisation.

Wizkid renews contract with Pepsi for the third time





Popular Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Balogun, known as Wizkid, must be hitting the right notes as world renowned soft drink company Pepsi has renewed his contract deal for next two years. Wizkid, who made the announcement using his twitter handle, is delirious with joy as he is pictured signing the affiliation pact with Pepsi.
“3 years with one of the biggest brands in the world Pepsi! Looking forward to another 2years! Blessings!!” he wrote.
This is the third consecutive time Whizkid’s ambassadorial deal with Pepsi will be renewed .
